Why this site exists
Most VPN advice online is written to sell a subscription, and a lot of it is written for other countries. Australia has its own rules: a two-year metadata retention scheme, the Privacy Act, streaming services that are licensed for Australia only, and new limits on social media accounts for under-16s. We explain those rules from the government pages that set them out, and we describe VPN companies only with facts from their own websites.
What we do
- Explain Australian laws and official guidance in plain English, linked to Home Affairs, the OAIC, Scamwatch, Moneysmart, eSafety and the Australian Cyber Security Centre.
- Describe VPN companies with dated facts from their own pages: server locations, independent audits, free plans and refund rules.
- Say clearly what a VPN can't do, including stopping scams, phishing and malware.
What we don't do
- We don't sell VPNs or security software, and we don't collect your details.
- We don't publish rankings or star ratings. Our best VPN in Australia page sets out the checks that matter and dated facts, so you can decide.
- We don't explain how to get around a streaming service's location rules or the under-16 social media rules.
- We don't publish VPN prices unless we've checked them in Australian dollars.

How we keep it accurate
Every page shows when it was published, updated and last reviewed. Law and government facts come from the government body that publishes them. Company facts come only from that company's own website. If we can't check a fact on one of those, we leave it out. Our sources page lists every page we used.
